A redshirt freshman linebacker, Montreze Smith Jr. led Austin Peay’s defense with a career-high 12 tackles including 10 solo stops. Smith recorded a tackle for loss and snatched a pair of interceptions in the Govs homecoming win over UNA. His 12-tackle, 2-interception performance is the only known double-digit tackle, two-interception game in Austin Peay history. Smith Jr. totaled 49 interception-return yards with runs of 34 and 15 yards after his picks. Last week, Smith Jr. was named to the Jerry Rice Award watch list, which is presented to the top freshman player in the FCS.
