#UACFOOTBALL -- United Athletic Conference (UAC) Football inaugural season champion Austin Peay knew they were in the field for the 2023 FCS Playoffs and on Sunday the Govs learned they would open postseason play with a home game against at-large selection Chattanooga on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2 PM CT on ESPN+ from Fortera Stadium.
The Governors, who finished the regular season with a 9-2 overall record and were undefeated in UAC play at 6-0, enter the postseason riding a nine-game win streak following a 14-12 victory in their season finale against Central Arkansas. APSU went 5-0 at "The Fort" this season.
"The United Athletic Conference is excited to have a quality program like Austin Peay representing us in the FCS Playoffs for our inaugurual appearance," said UAC Executive Director Oliver Luck. "It's even more satisfying to have the Govs selected as a host for a first round game, demonstrating the respect the FCS Championship Committee had for their performance and our league. The UAC is committed not only to earning respect for our play on the field but also to developing into a league that produces multiple teams selected to the championship field. The 2023 season was a success for the UAC and serves as a solid foundation as we grow and move forward in upcoming seasons."
APSU makes their second appearance in the FCS Playoffs, having reached the quarterfinals in their postseason debut in 2019. The Govs run that season started with a home victory over Furman followed by a road win at No. 4 Sacramento State before ending in the quarterfinals at Montana State.
The Mocs went 7-4 overall and finished third in the Southern Conference with a 6-2 record. Austin Peay and Chattanooga will be be meeting for the eighth time and last met in the 2021 season opener, a 30-20 victory for APSU.
The winner of Saturday's game advances to second round playoff action against No. 7 seed Furman in a Dec. 2 (1 PM ET) contest at Paladin Stadium in Greenville, S.C.
