#UACFOOTBALL -- Offense again proved to be the featured highlight for United Athletic Conference (UAC) Football play on Saturday as every winning squad tallied 30 or more points. Some key performers in those games were recognized by the league office on Monday as recipients of Player of the Week awards. Abilene Christian's Stone Earle and Landen Chambers of Central Arkansas shared the offensive honor while the EKU duo of Cam Junior (Defense) and TJ Mitchell III (Specialist) claimed recognitions. Austin Peay's Isaiah Groves (Freshman) rounded out the list of weekly winners.
Earle, a two-time weekly honoree, was 21-of-32 passing for 241 yards and three touchdowns in helping ACU to its third win over a ranked team this season. He also netted a new career-high with 78 rushing yards on nine carries (8.7 YPC). During the game, the redshirt-senior quarterback reached several career milestones, surpassing 3,000 passing yards at ACU while topping 4,000 passing yards for his college career. On ACU's game-sealing drive (19-plays, 94-yards 10:29 TOP), Earle went 6-for-8 passing for 60 yards and added 13 yards rushing. He accounted for five third down conversions on the drive with four completions along with an 8-yard run.
Chambers, a sophomore running back for UCA, finished with a career-best 184 yards on 24 carries (7.7 YPC) and scored three touchdowns in the Bears road win at UNA. The performance marked Chambers fourth consecutive game tallying 100+ rushing yards. His game total marked the third highest of the season in the UAC.
A redshirt-senior linebacker for EKU, Junior was second on the team with eight tackles in the Colonels victory over No. 15-ranked Austin Peay. Junior recorded six solo stops and collected a TFL in the contest. He was part of an EKU defense that shut out a high-powered Govs offense for the entire second half, limiting them to just 152 yards of total offense.
Mitchell, a redshirt-freshman wide receiver and kick returner, posted a pivotal 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in EKU's take down of No. 15 Austin Peay. The return, which ranks as the longest in UAC history, marked the first collegiate touchdown for Mitchell. For the game, Mitchell recorded three kick returns for 138 yards (46.0 avg.)
A true freshman running back, Groves carried the ball six times for a career-best 71 yards and was Austin Peay’s second-leading rusher. Groves averaged a team-leading 11.8 yards against EKU. His 71 rushing yards is the third-best rushing performance by a Gov this season
