#UACFOOTBALL -- Week five featured some career best performances to lead United Athletic Conference (UAC) squads to key victories on Saturday. Those top outings were reflected in the league's weekly award selections announced by the conference office on Monday, as Austin Peay's duo of Chris Parson (Offensive) and Kamari Maxwell (Freshman) were joined by EKU's Kaden Smith (Defensive) along with UWG's Tommy Holden (Specialist) as honorees.
Parson, a redshirt-sophomore quarterback, was APSU's leading passer and rusher, and was responsible for four touchdowns in a 42-10 win over Utah Tech. He threw touchdowns of 4, 9, and 30 yards in the first half; he then added a nine-yard rushing touchdown in the second half before exiting the game with the Govs double-digit lead midway through the third quarter. Parson's three touchdown passes were a career-high as were his 82 rushing yards, and he has now scored a rushing touchdown in three-straight games this season.
EKU's sophomore linebacker, Smith recorded 8 total tackles, including four solo stops. He also snatched the game-winning pick-six and returned it 16 yards for the score, to secure the 27-7 victory in the battle of the Colonels. EKU upped its current home win streak to nine games and produced its third defensive score of the season.
Holden, a senior kicker for UWG, nailed a 46-yard game winning field goal with one-second remaining to lift the Wolves over Southern Utah for a big road UAC win, 27-24. He also finished perfect on his PAT attempts going 3-for-3 in the win.
A true freshman for the Govs, Maxwell led Austin Peay with 71 receiving yards and was one of two Govs with a team-leading four receptions in the conference win versus Utah Tech. His four receptions and 71 yards are both career-highs. Maxwell posted 44 yards after the catch and a long reception of 29 yards.
