WEEK FIVE PREVIEW: Trio of Teams Make Conference Debuts on Saturday

APSU, SUU and UTU debut in league competition

UACFOOTBALL -- For the first time in 2025, a couple teams around United Athletic Conference (UAC) Football will enjoy a Saturday off from competition while the league's slate also includes two head-to-head clashes along with a pair of games against ranked non-conference foes.

NOTEWORTHY
- In the latest FCS National Rankings, the UAC saw four teams landing in all the Top 25 list for the first time in league history... Tarleton State continues to be the UAC's highest ranking by holding down the No. 3 spot in both traditional polls (AFCA and StatsPerform)... Abilene Christian moved up to No. 12 (StatsPerform) and No. 13 (AFCA) and West Georgia climbed to No. 18 (Stats Perform) while vaulting to No. 20 in the AFCA poll. Austin Peay rounded out the group of ranked squads for the UAC, earning the No. 23 (Stats Perform) and No. 25 (AFCA).

- Week 4 Recap: ACU kicked off league play with a hard-fought win over Austin Peay... UWG kept themselves undefeated on the season with a decisive victory versus EKU in a conference opener... Utah Tech picked up its first victory of the year by defeating Northern Iowa and the Texans became the first Division I team with five wins this year after dominating Chattanooga.

- Saturday kicks off with a big head-to-head battle with No. 23 Austin Peay (2-2, 0-1 UAC) hosts Utah Tech (1-3, 0-0 UAC) in The Fort in Clarksville, Tenn. The Trailblazers are making their 2025 UAC debut while the Govs are seeking to collect their first league win this season.

- The other key conference tilt has No. 18 West Georgia (4-0, 0-0 UAC) travelling cross-country to square off with Southern Utah (1-3, 0-0 UAC) team, with both programs playing their conference openers in the day's final contest.

- No. 12 Abilene Christian (2-2, 1-0 UAC) hits the road in search of its third victory of the season against a ranked FCS opponent as they square off against No. 24 UIW... Central Arkansas (1-3, 0-1 UAC) faces its second consecutive ranked opponent on the road, No. 22 Lamar... EKU (1-3, 0-1 UAC) hosts Nicholls State in just the Colonels' second home game this season, with hopes of remaining undefeated in Richmond.
 
- No. 3 Tarleton State (5-0, 1-0 UAC) and North Alabama (1-3, 0-0 UAC) are both on a bye week

- For a third consecutive season the UAC had a member squad compete in Week 0 on national television as No. 8/10 Tarleton State blanked Portland State, 42-0, on ESPN2. The win marked the first shutout performance for an FCS team in Week 0 history... The league owns a 2-2 mark in Week 0 play

- Heading into the 2025 season, UAC lineups include a trio of players listed on national award watch lists with Tarleton State QB Victor Gabalis named to the Walter Payton Award list along with a pair of defensive standouts, Lando Brown of Southern Utah and Abilene Christian's Will Shaffer, part of the Buck Buchanan Award list... Gabalis (Offensive) and Shaffer (Defensive) were tabbed the preseason Player of the Year choices by the conference coaches.

- In its brief three-year history, UAC Football has already produced THREE FCS over FBS wins: TSU over Army, 30-27 2OT and APSU defeated MTSU, 34-14 this season | SUU topped UTEP, 27-24 OT in 2024... The UAC now boasts THREE wins over a ranked non-conference FCS foe: ACU over #23 SFA, 28-20 and UWG over #22 Nicholls, 34-10 this season | EKU defeated #16 SEMO, 41-38, in 2023... Additionally, the league owns a pair of FCS Playoff wins in 2024 by the Wildcats and Texans
